Continue along calle Cristòfol Colom, and once you have passed the municipal market, you will come to the Gran Hotel, at number 18 of calle Romaguera. This is a 19th century historicist building, the work of the renowned architect Joaquín Pavía Birmingham, also the creator of the Neo-Gothic building which is now the headquarters of the Consell de Mallorca (Council of Mallorca), in Palma, situated next to the Town Hall. During its early years, this beautiful little palace was the family home of its owners, the Casasnovas family, who later converted the rear of the building into a tannery and shoe factory. In the 1960s, this family home was reconverted into a hotel. Later, in the 70s, it was closed and temporarily used as a cultural centre for Sóller. It has recently been restored and converted into a luxury hotel.
