The Galería Joanna Kunstmann started holding exhibitions in 1995 in a restored urban house in Santanyí, where she successfully ran the gallery for ten years. In April 2006 the gallery left that location on the coast to move to a new exhibition space in Palma. In spring 2005, the new gallery was opened in Palma’s old quarter, right next to Es Baluard Museum in the heart of the city’s new cultural hub.
Ever since the Galería Kewenig opened its first space in Frechen (Cologne), Germany in 1986, it has hosted a world-class exhibition programme, with a special focus on Arte Povera and the main international trends that emerged in the late 1960s. After three years in Palma, in June 2007 the Galería Kewenig moved to a new venue in the heart of the old district, in the recently refurbished Sant Feliu Oratory, an emblematic Romanesque-style building that stands out for its streamlined, original conceptual design. This oratory is one of the oldest structures in Palma, dating from the years just after the conquest.
