Monte de Oro

Platja Monte de Oro is situated at eight kilometres from Calvià, between sa Punta des Gats and Punta des Castellot, and next to Cala Blanca which is also known as Costa de la Calma, the name of the surrounding village. This small coastal corner of Calvià belongs to a sea inlet. There is not much sand, but rests of posidonia, and the beach is surrounded by some medium-high cliffs on the sides. Some touristic buildings can be seen in the surroundings and next to this beach. Platja del Monte de Oro is quite small and exposed to the wind from the west and southwest, so that there is not much place left for anchoring boats. Nevertheless, the navigator will find a sandy ground with seaweed and the depth ranges from two to four metres. At 0,3 nautical miles there is Club Nàutic Santa Ponça. The accessibility by car is easy following the signs until Santa Ponça. Once you have reached this touristic village you will have to search calle Palmeres which leads to this coastal stretch. The private car can be left on a free parking area in the surroundings. You can also reach this beach with the public transport. The nearest bus stop is located nearby. These characteristics explain that the beach is not very crowded by local visitors. In the proximity there is es Castellot, a defence tower which was built in the 18th century, as well as the Roman village of sa Mesquida.
