Es Molí de s'Estany

Es Molí de s'Estany is situated at 1,2 kilometres from Colònia de Sant Jordi and it is an excellent sandy area with pines, bushes and rosemary, as well as lentiscs to fix the dunes in the interior. The name comes from the nobility title of the owners of Colònia de Sant Jordi, the Descatlar family, marquis del Palmer, who between the 14th and the 18th century owned the pond for the exploitation of salt, and in the 19th century they got the entitlement back. The southern coast of Migjorn has suffered during the Middle Ages the attacks of Saracene and Turkish pirates. In the 16th century a vigilance tower was built, in order to warn the population by smoke, so that they could protect themselves. This fortress must have been the first building of this village and was preserved until the twenties of the 20th century. Anchoring on the sandy ground with some seaweed is easy, except when the wind is blowing from the west, the environment is beautiful, there is a depth of about four metres at 250 metres from the coast. The nearest port facilities are located at Port Colònia de Sant Jordi, at 1,2 nautical miles. Information about this beach may change.
