Cala Matzoc

Cala Matzoc is situated at 10,5 kilometres from Artà. The name comes from the round defense tower, Torre des Matzoc (18th century), which rises on Faralló d'Aubarca. This beach is the less frequented from Cala Torta, Cala Mitjana and Cala Estreta. This small fine-grained sandy area, with pebbles and gravel mixed to posidonia on the coast, has at the rear some scrubland, bushes and coastal pine trees, whereas the high and steep area tries to shelter it from the winds of the first quadrant. The fact that it is exposed to the wind blowing from northwest, north, northeast and east, as well as the morphology, explain that bathing here is very dangerous and anchoring boats on a sandy ground of four metres depth at two hectometres from the coast is a manoeuvre that requires an enormous concentration. There is also a dangerous sandbank, at 384 metres east-southeast from Torre d'Aubarca in front of Cala Matzoc. In the less deep point there are 2,4 metres. From all the southern beaches of this area, this cove is the one that is most sheltered from the winds from the southeast to the northeast. The nearest port facilities are located at Club Nàutic Cala Ratjada, at 5,4 nautical miles. The accessibility by car is complicated. There is a track for four-wheel drive vehicles. You are recommended to reach the beach on foot on a spectacular coastal trail and a 20 minutes walk. Because of this beach's situation and exposure to winds, you must pay attention to weather conditions that make swimming and mooring boats unadvisable. When the beach has a lifeguard service, you must follow the lifeguards' instructions and the warnings on flags. A red flag indicates dangerous swimming conditions and means that swimming is not permitted. A yellow flag indicates that precaution must be taken, but that swimming is permitted. A green flag indicates that swimming is permitted. An orange flag is used to indicate that the lifeguard is absent. Act cautiously when no lifeguard is present or the service is not available and enjoy the beach without taking any unnecessary risks. For health and safety reasons, the municipal ordinances ban pets on beaches. Information about this beach may change.
